Since it opened in 2017, Doko Meadows Park has been Blythewood’s recreational showstopper. The 22-acre green space has become the social center for outdoor activities and community gatherings.
Along with a large, modern playground and multi-purpose sports fields, the park features a 1-mile paved walking trail that takes you around a scenic pond to a shaded boardwalk in the woods where you can observe nature. A large amphitheater overlooking the pond serves as a venue for concerts, shows and festivals.
While it may be the new crowd favorite, the park is but one of many recreational amenities Blythewood has to offer. The town also has two golf courses, five horseback riding facilities and a county park with ball fields, tennis courts and a gymnasium.
Operated by Richland County, Blythewood Park is where you’ll find most of the town’s sports-oriented amenities. The 21-acre recreation complex includes two lighted Dixie Youth baseball fields, one lighted softball field and two tennis courts, as well as a playground and picnic shelter. There’s also a gymnasium with basketball courts, exercise equipment, a weight room and various activity rooms.
Golfers visiting Blythewood have two excellent options, including Cobblestone Park Golf Club, a former private club long recognized as one of the best places to play in the Midlands. It features 27 holes through rolling hills and lakes along with a beautiful clubhouse that’s home to the acclaimed Alexander’s at Cobblestone Park restaurant.
The Blythewood Country Club is a Pete Dye 18-hole layout located on Lake Windermere. With gently rolling fairways that lead to fast bent grass greens, it’s a fantastic test for the skilled golfer, but plenty of fun for higher handicappers, too.
Blythewood is also known as “horse country” with its many equestrian competitions and events, from fox hunts to bronco busting. The University of South Carolina equestrian team trains at one of several horse farms located in town. One Wood Farm also served as the training grounds for the U.S. Olympic equestrian team.
Among the many stables and equestrian facilities in Blythewood are Long Creek Equestrian Centre, Three Fox Farm, Smith Farms and Hidden Creek Dressage. These full-service riding academies offer instruction in English and western horseback riding, show jumping, dressage, hunt seat and barrel racing.
